intentional

I don't have lengthy goals for 2013.
I don't have a list.
I have one word.

Intentional. (done on purpose, deliberate.)

My one word for 2013 is "intentional."

I want my life to be intentional. I want my decisions to be intentional, my relationships intentional.
My movements.
My actions.
My work.
My words.
My free time.
My life.

Intentional.

I have a tendency to be a "homebody." I shy away from get togethers with friends (old or new) and list reasons why I just cannot fit it into my schedule. Not that I lie, there is always something else that could be done...but I miss out on so many friendships, opportunities, and memories. Now, don't think I'm a loner. I have friends (not a whole lot here in our new town...but soon!) I am outgoing once I feel more comfortable around people and I like to think I'm a kind person. But I want to be more intentional with my friends. I want to invest in them, pray for them, grow with them.

My husband is a youth pastor. That means countless hours at church, youth events, small groups, etc. I want to have to be intentional in my support of him. I want to make myself availiable for those students. I strive to be intentional with the time I have with them. Every meeting, sleepover, shopping trip, text message...intentional.

Everything God does has a purpose.
Everything I do needs to mirror that same purpose.

To be intentional with my time, is to honor Him in everything.

Everything.
Intentional.

  1. I have a hard time with relationships also. I tend to be a loner - not because I dislike people, but rather because I enjoy and prefer to be by myself most of the time. So, this poses a problem when my husband is a Youth Pastor as well. I feel you.

  3. I like the idea of having just a word instead of a resolution!

  4. Thanks guys. It's definitely a challenge, but I'm excited to overcome it!

Denise: Thanks! I find it less intimidating than a list of things I will probably not accomplish. Baha. :)

  6. okay i literally just read this post with my mouth hanging open. this is my life right now - intentional! my campus church has really taught me the importance of that word, of going DEEP with people and asking questions and making meaningful relationships. and now it is so important to me to be intentional with my friends and people i meet. it's so rare in today's society to be REAL and intimiate with friends, but now that i've begun doing it, i feel so much more fulfillment.
thank you so much for writing this post.

  7. I'm so glad this was used to help others! Melanie, I've been going through the same thing lately, and God really placed this word on my heart. It's so encouraging to know others are striving to be intentional also! I'll be praying for you!
